Principal's Message

Aloha Lokelani ʻOhana,
Welcome back to school year 2017-2018!
At Lokelani, the teachers and staff embrace the middle school philosophy of creating learning environments that are developmentally responsive, challenging, empowering and equitable.  The school wide community at Lokelani is committed to the Association of Middle Level Education (AMLE) major goals of preparing our students to be actively aware of their community and the larger world wrestling with big ideas and questions on how to better our global society.
Our teachers facilitate learning where students are asked to think of questions and relevant issues that they would like to find solutions to.  Through our STEM Works After School Program and the support of the Digital Learning Promise Grant, students have equitable access to digital tools to explore, communicate and collaborate with the world and learn from a variety of sources while understanding their digital footprint and their responsibility when using these powerful digital tools.  Through our school garden program students are preparing to be stewards of the earth and intelligent consumers of natural resources.  At Lokelani, students understand and use the major concepts of health, physical education, language arts, world languages, mathematics, natural and physical sciences and social sciences.  Students also explore music, arts, and careers to engender a  passion for their learning and see how that passion can prepare them for college and career.
We seek to develop the strengths, talents and interests of our students while recognizing, respecting and valuing the diversity that our school embraces.  Equally important, we are supporting our students to be ethical decision makers while developing their interpersonal social skills through our HOKU advisory program.  There are many ways to get involved in our school wide community, and we hope to work with our parents as partners in these awesome middle school years full of learning, exploring and rigor.  We look forward to a prosperous school year where the focus is and will continue to be to offer maximum opportunities for all of our students to ignite their passion for learning.
